Sometimes, Cupid strikes at a party.
Sometimes, Cupid strikes between friends.
For Marcus and Becky, Cupid struck at the Glenway Pub in Belmont.
The couple met on OK Cupid. For Becky and Marcus online was fun. They enjoyed the warmth and wit of their chat sessions, and hoped their chemistry would click once they met in person. To see if it did, they planned to meet for lunch that Saturday at the Glenway Pub in Belmont.
Although it rained that Saturday morning in January, the sun broke through the clouds ten minutes before their date began. Becky hoped this was a good sign.
It was. They hit it off immediately. After lunch, Marcus suggested they get ice cream at the nearby general store. Neither of them were ready for their date to end. They walked together through downtown Belmont, talking about their lives.
“After other first dates that left me unsure, I was starting to doubt that I knew what I was looking for,” Becky said. “But after meeting Marcus, I distinctly remember thinking to myself, ‘THIS is what I’m looking for, THIS is how a first date should go,’ without any uncertainty whatsoever.”
Marcus found Becky delightful.
“Becky was exactly what I was looking for,” he said. “She was and is beautiful and smart, and she has a great sense of humor. Our personalities just clicked immediately as we delved into topics much deeper than the usual first date pleasantries.”
As their friendship blossomed into romance, Marcus decided that Becky was ‘The One.’
On Friday, June 23, 2017, he called Becky and suggested they meet for dinner after work at the Glenway Pub. Becky was surprised, since she was the one who usually planned fun things to do together.
“We ate at the same table where we had our first date,” Becky said. “We each drove our own cars back home. I remember the squeal of his tires as he was pulling out of the parking lot!” She was surprised; that was unlike Marcus, a skilled and responsible driver.
She had no idea what had gotten into him. On that night she will always remember, she soon found out.
When she got home, she stopped to take in the first thing she saw as she walked in the door: champagne, flowers, chocolates, romantic lighting, and a beautiful card set up on the kitchen table.
“He just popped around from the corner, got down on one knee, and proposed!” Becky said. Tears of joy welled in her eyes. There was no doubt, no worry, no question. She knew Marcus was the man she would love for life.
I was fortunate enough to photograph Marcus’s sister and brothers wedding so I was overjoyed that their family once again gave me the honor of being part of their special day.
So on July 7, 2018 family and friends gathered at Chestnut Ridge in Canton NC, to celebrate the wedding of Becky and Marcus.
Among the flood of happy memories from that day, one stands out for Becky.
“The best thing about our wedding was holding each others’ hands during the ceremony,” she said. “It felt so personal and joyous and comfortable. We forgot that a room of nearly 200 people were all there for us and watching us, which is especially surprising since neither of us particularly like being the center of attention. After the ceremony, all of the stress had just melted away, and left nothing but excitement and joy.”
After their wedding, They spent 10 fabulous days in Tahiti before settling in to the rest for their lives together in Belmont.
